Yes, I know. It’s been almost two months since my last posting.
I’d like to say that I was so busy that I just didn’t have the time to get any new articles written but that wasn’t the case. It really was more that I needed a break from the blog for a while.
Nonetheless, there been significant progress on our upcoming trip so I can’t delay any longer to post the status of the planning steps of that Adventure.

To bring everyone up to date, our next Excellent Adventure this fall (actually less than three months away) is a driving trip with Peter and Liz (my brother and sister in law) from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Montreal, Quebec. Taking place over a three week period, we’ll be driving over 3600 km through the provinces of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec.

Most of our planning sessions have been around our computer using our trip planning software which has been invaluable in determining the fine details of our itinerary. One of the primary goals of this trip has been to try not to have too many long driving days and be able to have built-in flexibility to be able to stop when we want to. A such, the software that we have used is easily configured to allow this and we now have a working itinerary that we plan to follow.
As of this writing, we have already booked our flights and our rental car and the only thing left is to book those hotels in the cities where we feel that it is necessary to book ahead. We don’t intend to have hotel bookings made in advance for every place that we plan on stopping as we want to have some degree of flexibility and not always be committed to a specific place to stay overnight.
One of the destinations that I’m quite looking forward to is Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Lunenburg has a long history of building famous tall ships – the most famous is likely the Bluenose which is the ship that is on our 10 cent coin.
Prince Edward Island is a province that I had last been to 30 years ago when I was in the Boy Scouts and is also another province that I am also looking forward to seeing. I distinctly remember the red sand beaches in PEI.
One of the biggest “industries” in PEI is the whole Anne of Green Gables scene. Apparently hundreds of thousands of people come to PEI for the sole reason of visiting the Anne of Green Gables site and the hundreds of shops that support this. Needless to say, if we see any Anne of Green Gables sites on our time in PEI, we won’t be stopping.
The four of us will be doing a lot more planning over the next few weeks as we’re working on at least three different hotel booking at this time. Stay tuned for more updates…
