Shopping as an art form

Some of you may have picked up from previous Excellent Adventures that Barb and I have a liking for shopping when we travel to Europe. This is pretty much true and we often come back on the return trip home laden down with the bounties of the places we visit. Its not just that we have nothing better to do than spend countless hours in the great department stores that are available here but we consider it somewhat of an art form to only get what is the best of a city and none more. Just today I picked up 5 cans of fois gras to sustain us in the days and weeks ahead. Only the necessities, you know.

Driving like maniacs

No trip to Europe would be complete without commenting on the driving habits of the locals. In general, there’s lots to be envious of in France as the have an excellent highway system with fast 130 km/hr speed limits on the major freeways. Europeans in general are quite disciplined about keeping to the right on highways except when passing. The left passing lane sometimes has cars roaring by you at significantly faster speeds than you are doing.

Food Glorious Food

Day 6:

Today began with an early morning delivery of our breakfast courtesy of Patrick. It consisted of the freshest croissants and a baguette – something that we have found that the French excel at. Along with the orange juice in the fridge and fresh coffee and copious quantities of butter and local jam, the breakfast couldn’t have been any better.

Day 4:

As today was our last day in the Burgundy region, we ended up spending it in Dijon again and did some shopping. We really planned on doing most of our shopping in Paris but one cannot just drop into Paris and shop as one cannot just run a marathon. Such things need “warming up” and shopping in Dijon (a much smaller city) was the perfect way to train for the real shopping ahead.
