Barb and Baden’s Québec Winter Adventure

Around this time of year, many people that we know was planning trips down to sunny destinations. Places like Mexico and the Bahamas were being mentioned. Where were Barb and I planning on going? Well, let's just say that when we arrived on Thursday it was 28 degrees colder than when we left Vancouver. Do we know something that everyone else doesn't or are we completely nuts? Maybe a bit of both but Barb and I can't help but love the Québec City Winter Carnival.

Aunt Dagmar lives just outside of Montreal and it’s about a one hour flight from where we are in Quebec City. Kind of like Melbourne to Sydney.

Our Excellent Eastern Canada Pictures

It’s now been a week since we’ve been home from our Excellent Eastern Canada Adventure and as usual, normal life has long since taken over. The return home from this particular vacation was a lot easier because of the relatively short flying time from Montreal and also the similarly small number of hours difference in time zones. Under normal circumstances (at least when we are flying home from Europe) we’d be recovering from a 9-10 hour flight and 9 hours difference in time.

Our Excellent Eastern Canada Adventure – Final

This weekend marks the final stretch of our Excellent Eastern Canada Adventure as today (day 16) is technically a long weekend for most everyone but of course a long weekend has little meaning when you are on vacation. We left Quebec City this morning and have moved on to the town of Knowlton which is located on the south tip of Lac Brome (Brome Lake) in the Cantons de l’Est (Eastern Townships) region of Quebec.

Our Excellent Eastern Canada Adventure – Part 5

When I last wrote we were about to leave Rimouski and continue to head east to our next destination of Montmagny (pronounced: mo-ma-nee). In the day time we got a better look at the board walk on our way out of town and I wish that we had spent more than one night in Rimouski as it’s really quite an attractive town.

Our Excellent Eastern Canada Adventure – Part 4

Skipping New Brunswick

With the decision made to skip St. Andrews and removing several hundred kilometers from our trip, we headed north on highway 11 to ultimately cross the bridge into Quebec at the town of Cambellton, New Brunswick. On our way north through New Brunswick, we had made a detour through what is called the Acadian Peninsula onto Miscou Island for some sightseeing and had lunch there. this extra detour took away some of the extra day that we had gained by skipping St. Andrews.

Golden Breakfast

Since breakfast has been included with our package at the Manoir des Erables where we have been staying, we’ve had a chance to be treated to some really great meals to start out our days. Barb will tell you that one of my favourite breakfasts is French toast so it isn’t much of a surprise that I’ve had this twice so far in the past two days.
