Barb and Baden’s Excellent Spanish Adventure – Final

The Rock, Cats, Monkeys and Nutella Final Week:

We left Sevilla after picking up our rental car from the train station and headed south towards Ronda where we would be staying for the final week. About halfway during our two and a half hour drive, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant in a small town. The restaurant seemed to be one of those family run operations and the staff quite friendly. We were served by the ‘grandmother’ and as usual, they spoke no English but we seemed to manage communicating.

I enjoyed reading about your adventures. I was searching for information on public or self-service laundromats in Toledo, Spain. Since the word laundry was in one of your stories, I was able to read about your experiences. I never found a self-service or even for service laundry in Toledo. Our hotel did not have laundry service and neither the manager nor the Tourism offices could provide us with information on laundromats of any type.

Of Ham and Football

Day 10 (cont):

We had a few hours to kill before heading out to the football game so we took the opportunity to get our laundry done. We usually end up doing this boring (but necessary) task about once a week while we travel.

So What’s Wrong with Spain, Anyway?

Over dinner the other night, Barb and I were talking about our choice to travel to Spain and that relatively few other people that we know had express interest in going to Spain as well. As far as Europe goes, certainly Italy and France are always talked about as places people state that they are dreaming of travelling to and Germany is also similarly stated but only usually if there is family there. But rarely Spain.

To Tel Aviv and Back

Day 4:

It is now our third day in Barcelona and Barb still doesn’t have her luggage. The thrill of “winging it” has pretty much worn off now and Barb’s morale continues to decline on an hourly basis. What she believed would be a minor inconvenience becomes more and more inconvenient. We spent much of the morning shopping for necessary replacements but there are several problems.

The first major obstacle is that buying replacement summer clothes is very difficult when 99% of the items in stores are sweaters and other such warm weather items. The other big issue is that Barb has been wearing the same pair of shoes since we got here. In order for Barb to replace even one of the 15 other pairs of shoes in her missing suitcase, it may well take every hour of the rest of the 17 days left on the trip.

The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly on the Plane.

Good News! When we were checking in at the Air Canada counter in Vancouver, we were told that we would be upgraded to business class on the flight to Toronto. Frankly, this was surprising as one of our tickets was a free ticket redeemed on points. However, since we never argue such fine details, we gladly accepted the upgrade. For those of you who have never flown business class, I can tell you that (on a long flight), it is simply luxurious. There is about 6ft of room between the front of your seat and the next seat and the food is served on white linen and real glasses.

Barb and Baden’s Excellent Spanish Adventure – Part 1

So another year has passed and we find ourselves again sitting at the airport boarding gate waiting for our flight to start our trip to Spain. I find that this is really the best part of the trip when all of the work of planning and researching the trip is over and the excitement of just getting there is all we’re thinking about. We’ve only just arrived at the airport and the bags have been checked and we now just have to wait for the boarding call. Only after this first stage, the familiar weariness of travel will begin to take over as we make our way to Toronto, then Madrid, then Barcelona arriving some time tomorrow morning.
